Melanie Close Liotta has a BA in Art (1970) and has been working in clay ever since. She worked exclusive in ^10 reduction until the mid-90s when she started experimenting with colorful design in ^6 oxidation. Melanie uses intensely colored underglazes on white or dark stoneware clay. Her signature pieces are using these underglazes over a deep-red stoneware clay on which she carves through the underglazes using a technique called ‘sgraffito’ to reveal the dark clay. Melanie moved to Lake County in 1984 and lived in Cobb until the Valley Fire. She now lives in Riviera West. |
